Personal background
I'm just a normal guy with a normal job who's always had an eye towards the stars. I'm one of those people who believes that if we truly are the only intelligence in the universe, then it does seem to be an awfully big waste of space.

I'm also one of those people who has wanted to be aboard the Enterprise since I was a kid. I'm disappointed we're not further along in that area. I'm VERY excited about the X-Prize (Wired issue 11.07, July 2003) and honestly believe the private sector's interest/participation/motivation will yield great results.

Ultimately, though, what I really want is someone to come down from the heavens and give us a schematic to their warp core!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My original registration class with SETI was May of 2000. During that time I managed 500 results. Having lost my password, and long since changed email addresses multiple times, I started anew in February 2003 so I could participate in happenings in the site (create a profile, etc).

I'm putting a lot of trust into the people who are sending the work packets for all SETI users to analyze. I trust that they know what they're looking for -- because I know I don't! That having been said, I think the overall approach (millions of users assisting) is an incredibly ingenious idea, and believe IF there is something to be found based on the way we're all analyzing the information, this is probably how it will be discovered.

Moreover, I don't care which one of our PC's finds THE signal. I'll just be elated when it happens, regardless of who does it!
