Profile: John T. Bryan

Personal background
I am a former software engineer with 12 years experience in embedded and real-time systems, as well as operating systems, device drivers, and user interfaces. Then I wised up in 1993 and got a law degree, and now I am an Assistant Attorney General with the State of Colorado, handling criminal appeals on behalf of the prosecution.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is virtually certain that there is extraterrestrial life, although I suspect the chances of intelligent and communicative life with the inclination to use radio transmissions anywhere within detection range are remote. Still, it is worth the attempt to look and see, which is why I run SETI@Home. I think we should probably not transmit a beacon signal; it is far safer for us if we detect them before they detect us.
