Exobiology- The study of the distribution of life throughout the universe.
The odds that Earth is the only planet in the galaxy, let alone the universe, is the only one with sentient life are minuscule. A plethora of stars have been located with orbiting heavenly bodies, similar to our own solar system in some obscure way or another. It is conceivable that a percentage of these solar systems contain life bearing planets, ranging from the simple amino acids, to intelligent life far more advanced then our own, to anything between or beyond these extremes. It is only a matter of time before we find intelligent life, or intelligent life finds us.
