Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe single to multi cell extraterrestrial microbial life exists, arises and is extinguished fairly often in the cosmos, but I doubt there is or was sentient, cognitive extraterrestrial life capable of receiving our transmissions or sending transmissions that we might detect. The best chance to discover evidence of extraterrestrial life in the immediate future is probably on Mars, possibly living, but most likely fossil microbes. Seti is to a large degree an empirical process. We will all learn as SETI continues and evolves. Unintended benifits such as the broader application of shared computing in research and design will continue to arise.
