Profile: Rae Lynn

Personal background
Namaste, everyone. I'm a 34-year-old poet and shaman from Minnesota. I enjoy reading (Shirley Jackson, Stephen King, Keri Hulme, 19th-20th c. poetry), listening to music (Bjork, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Garbage, Indigo Girls, Robbie Robertson), doing counted cross-stitch, watching movies, and maintaining my website, lavender-light.com
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
For me, SETI@home isn't so much about if there is or isn't something out there as it is about diverse people working toward a common goal sheerly for love of/interest in that goal. One of the things that's always fascinated me about the internet (and I was around for the text-only days!) is how it can bring people together without crashing them together. I am still fascinated by the logs on my website that tell me from where people have visited; someone could turn up with whom I have nothing in common - with whom I might even come into conflict face-to-face - but instead they come to the site, take what they need, and move on. We might be ships passing, but it's a reminder that we are on the same waters.

SETI@home is like that to me: waters my ship shares with millions of others. No matter who they are or where they come from, we automatically have something in common by merit of our being here, and to me that borders on the beautiful.
