Personal background
Hello. I'm an undergraduate student of physics at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. I've always been interested in science and technology and learning new things. My body runs on solar power and beer, i.e. I love the summers when I can worship the sun (while drinking beer) without even needing to wear a shirt.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI@Home is a nice project although I very much doubt it will ever find a (recognizable) signal from another intelligent species. Personally I doubt if humanity will ever make contact with aliens. I do believe, however, that there exists some kind of life besides ours in the universe (it's a rather big place after all) whether it be single-celled organisms or advanced intelligent societies. I just don't think communication between civilizations is likely.

Still the SETI@Home project is not a waste of resources. It covers a whole lot of sky at certain frequencies and we might find something totally unexpected. And if we don't the information is still useful in defining what cannot be found in the sky. SETI@Home is science and science is all about gathering knowledge - and that is realized whether the project finds something or not.
