Hello,
I am a 20 year old licensed pilot from Texas who is pursuing a career in the greatest field of human ingenuity, aviation. While going along the long and trying path of getting countless ratings, certificates, and endorsements I manage a flight school in the DFW area. I am also really into professional sports, mainly hockey and baseball. GO STARS!!! GO RANGERS!!! |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I first learned of SETI while on a private tour of NASA's JPL (Jet Propulsion Labratory) in Pasadena. It wasn't until last year that SETI @ Home was brought to my attention and I thought that it was and is a terrific idea. Not only do you save the taxpayers money and the finances from contributions for other endeavours, but you are also reaching out to educate the public on the posibility of life on other heavenly bodies. I am really impressed at the way that such a complex task as analyzing every radio wave in space, be it artificially created or naturally occuring, was simplified for even the lay person to be able to participate.
I believe that we will make contact with another race of beings at some time in the future. While I hope that that will happen soon, I can not begin to guess a precise date. I think that the boost to our knowledge of the universe will be beyond our grasp. What marvels of science and technology did the other race come up with to cope with their enviroment? I would also like to know how they look. Hollywood portrays them as monsters, humanoids, or based on an animal from Earth. What a limited view.
In response to whether we should broadcast a beam to be picked up I say we should. And what is better to send than television. It shows are arts, our history, our sports, and our current events. If you were trying to learn about us it is probably the greatest aide other than the Internet. But being as our language may be hard for them to decode, a visual image is always worth a thousand if not a million words. |
