Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe with certainty that life must have evolved on worlds other than our own. In fact, mathematically speaking it is very improbable that we are alone. Predicting when we will discover extraterrestrial life is a wild guess at best... but inevitably, we will discover ET.

Potential benefits from the discovery of extraterrestrial life will depend on what is discovered first. We may find non-sentient life or intelligent life that is our equal in technology. We may however attract intelligent space travelers that are not so friendly.

Despite the risk / benefit arguments, we should use reasonable resources to search for ET. Seti@Home is a great way to pursue this search. I am proud to be a participant.
