Personal background
I am from Richmond, VA. I am a computer programmer and I have an avid interest in Science and Science Fiction. I love to read anything that gives us a glimpse into the future and I strongly believe that other intelligent lifeforms must exist in our galaxy.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Although I don't think we will find anything with SETI due to the distances involved between stars, I believe we should be looking just in case. We are making an assumption that ET races developed radio thousands of years before we did and that they use some form of communication that we do. There are several ways to transmit information and radio is pretty slow if you are an advanced space traversing species. It is speculated that the interior of our galaxy is not habitable by life because of the radition involved so that would put most life in the outer arms of the galaxy which spreads the races out even more. On the off chance that life does exist, it uses radio to communicate, it lives fairly close by and it developed radio the requisite number of years ago for the signals to reach us then we should be listening.
