Personal background
Hi, my name is Craig, and currently I am living and working in Sydney. I am an ITIL consultant who works way too many hours, but enjoys spending time with the family. My only real weakness is fishing and being with my kids (not in that order). I also like the theatre, but I don't have enough time to enjoy it recently.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe there has to be life other than what exists on this small pile o' mud. Mathematically it only stands to reason. Whether it exists at this point in time, what form it would take and how we would react to its existance is a question for the philosophers.

My only fear is that having to face the fact that we aren't the only sentient beings in the unverse would probably push us all over the edge. I hope that by the time we discover what is out there, that we are over our compulsion to destroy that which we do not understand.

Apart from running SaH for the sheer science it offers, I believe that developing distributed projects like this will eventually deliver major benefits. How much quicker could we develop medicines for HIV and other diseases if we had a few million computers crunching the problem.

I also don't liek waste - and that is what happens 99.5% of the time - while our computers sit around doing nothing.
