I'm Scotty Matthews, a professional voice-over artist, and I'm currently Creative Services Director for the four radio stations of Citadel Broadcasting of Syracuse, New York. (I work with local clients to develop radio commercials--I'm one of the guys who insists on making "great" commercials, you know, the ones that people actually have fun listening to!)
I also have two small, simple, home recording studios for voice-over and music recording, and each one is equipped with it's own computer and high-speed connection. These machines are running SETI@home.
My other hobbies and interests include (seriously), playing guitar, keyboard music, the Theremin, performing as a magician and ventriloquist, flying kites, and... I am also a Certified Hypnotherapist. None of these things has made me rich--they only help me be happy.
I marched on DC with a million friends in 1992, and I wrote a book about civil rights that nobody would publish. (Not because it was bad, but because it was right in a way that nobody really wants to face. Pretty sad.)

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I run SETI@home because we in the broadcasting industry have been beaming advertising into space for more than 70 years. So far, ET has not stopped-in to catch the REO Speedwagon show at the fairgrounds and toss-back a couple of cold ones (as far as we know), and for that matter, has never picked-up the phone to order a pizza, even when they were on special.
This seems strange to me, because a lot of these commercials work really well on humans. Maybe the little grey guys just find them annoying, like spam. I mean, right now, they could be transmitting a language equivalent of "please remove me from your mailing list" and nobody has bothered to show them the slightest consideration. If Hollywood is to be believed, this sort of thing can lead to horrific misunderstandings escalating into interstellar wars and Jack Nicholson playing dual roles... this must be prevented at all costs!
