No more than a grain of sand... close up it looks fairly unique but from a distance it all looks the same and has no importance beyond a small contribution to the collective venture.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Previous SETI Classic 566 work units lost in space due to out of date e-mail and a long forgotten password.
Mindful of the paradox that the tranquility and beauty I observe in the natural world around me all comes from unfathomably violent explosive reactions in the Universe, it is just about conceivable that there is something 'out there' stupid enough to be sending out signals aimlessly in the hope of contacting other life capable of the same and advertising potential food supplies.
It is all a totally absurd project but is great for giving people general purpose to unite in the cause of communication and understanding rather than being hell bent on mutual self destruction, or so I choose to delude myself.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
