Personal background |
Although more or less raised in the "fly over" area otherwise known as the Midwest USA, my soul belongs to many different regions. I was born in Canada, and spent four years in Europe attending school. As such, I have visited much of Europe. Italy remains my favorite vacation spot--the mix of ancient history with modern culture is unbeatable. I was introduced to seti@home in 1999 by a friend who is a fan of anything related to the Republic of Berkeley.
I am an avid fan of reading, exercising, financial investing, computer hardware "rearranging," and travel. I enjoy humor presented through any media, excepting the "giant hammer and watermelon" variety. I am 31 years old and a physician, although I currently am not practicing as I am in the middle of a change of specialty.
I have become more aware of politics in the last 6 years and view the current administration in a rather dim light. However, I also trend towards cynicism in this regard, and in my musings wonder whether selflessness and politics shall ever be united. At heart, I accept realpolitik as the true way of the world and continue on. On that dour note, hello and thank you for participating in SETI@home! |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
My computer is used primarily for somewhat important financial news reading, moderately important online medical resource perusing, mildly important email checking, and non-important FPS game-playing. As such, I feel that perhaps another organization dedicated to a worthy cause might find more use for my squandered bits and bytes. Although a near-athiest and non-believer in most everything metaphysical, I do agree heartily with Sagan's and Drake's assertions that intelligent life elsewhere in our galaxy is a near-certainty. I doubt that any meaningful contact with an outside intelligence will be discovered within my lifetime, or even within the lifetimes of my great-grandchildren. However, any contribution I can make towards a near- or distant future contact I consider time well spent.
My suggestion is to continue doing what you're doing, as it is fantastic work. |
