Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that Seti@home is a fasinating project and regardless of whether it is successful in identifying signals from an intelligent source, the concept of distributing processing jobs will have been worth the effort.

Do I believe there is intelligent life outside (or even on) the earth? I think there is a real chance that there is, but I also think there is a real possibility that it may not be within range to be observed by us.

Should we transmit a beacon for others to find? It seems whether we intend to or not, we have been for 50 years in the form of TV and radio transmissions.

Why do I run Seti@home? Because it seems to be an interesting experiment. Either way, whether a signal is found or not, the result will be interesting, and the methodology is worth pursuing.
