Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that there is life out there ofr purely statistical reasons. One of the critical questions though is, how long on average a life form persists in a state, that allows them to broadcast / receive interstellar communication. Do many of them blow themselves up in wars early in technical development? What other factors influence the lifespan of a technological society? After all when we receive a signal the planet / society who sent it might long be gone. Most likely, for the sheer distance, thgere will never be a two-way communication. - Nevertheless I think SETI is a good and important project. It would still be highly exciting to have a one-way communication.
