Personal background
I am probably an old man compared to most of the user profiles listed here. I am 57 years old, have been a ton of miles, and it probably shows on me. I served our country during the 1960's for 6 years as an army paratrooper. I was with the 82nd Airborne Division, 7th Special Forces Group, 8th Infantry Division, and did some special ops for the 18th Airborne Corps. I finished up my army career as an instructor at the 8th Division Airborne School located at Wiesbaden Air Force Base in Wiesbaden, Germany. I tallied up a total of 878 parachute jumps, with the majority being HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) type jumps, which are commonly referred to as skydives.

I am presently a professional photographer working in a small studio and processing lab in South Carolina. For many reasons, I believe in the existance of extraterrestials, and I believe our government knows about them, and has for a long time. I also believe that we, as mankind, are still not ready for the advanced existance of our ET friends. We still get angry over mundane things, are killing our own kind over nothing, and could not handle the advanced mental prowess of our ET friends.

I hope and pray that we are evolving quickly enough to save our race. More is at stake than most of us realize.

Until SETI learns to monitor thought waves, I doubt there is much chance we'll discover ET signals. Unless, we pick some up from a distant less advanced world.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In brief, yes, I believe that ET exists. Discover them? I think there are thousands of us who already have, but not enough to prove it. At least, not in our system of proofs. I feel the benefits and/or dangers are unfathomable (sic) to our little used minds.
I think we should only send a beacon if we are not going to kill any entity that responds to it.
I run seti@home just on the remote chance that we'll discover actual radio signals from ET's. I truly feel that our chances are remote, since any advanced entities will probably use a communication medium much more advanced than we are aware. If we do receive radio signals from them, it will probably occur by their design and intent.
I think we should expend every effort to capture and monitor thought waves. Possibly, the most expediant form of communication.
