Personal background
Hi! I'm a Father of three, married to a wonderful woman, living over here in Beautiful, Star Valley, Wyoming. I am a Blacksmith, specializing in custom lighting fixtures for the interior lighting industry. I have a myriad of interests, including, but not limited to, alternative energy, metalurgy, electronics, computers, radio, old Ford Trucks, Bus conversions, gardening, science fiction, music, and on and on... Born in 1964, I have watched the world change tremendously. I have wanted to help with Seti-at-Home ever since I heard about it years ago. But, I had to wait 'till I got my own computer to do so. I truly thought I was missing the boat, so to speak, not helping with the Data crunching. But, I see that this is still "young" and new to alot of people. I am amazed at the amount of people that sign on every day!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do believe there is other Life out there. But I don't think we are "supposed" to find it. Man has proved so often that we aren't mature enough for technology or information beyond our understanding. (Look at the mess with Cloneing, there shouldn't even be a question as to whether or not we should clone Humans. But there it is..) I don't believe we will ever master space. We aren't able to take care of ourselves on our own World yet. I think that the "other" life is very aware of us. Have been watching us in earnest since the early '50's, or just maybe, since day one of man. Who really knows....? If they are of good intentions, they wouldn't interfere much. But I personally think we are too "Volatile". As far as transmitting a beacon, come on, we've been doing just that since those Olympics way back when. And its possible that man has "transmitted" before. Can anyone here say they Really know? I am helping with Seti-at-Home because the very idea is extremely exciting! I think it would be wonderful for the "others" to acknowledge there presence. But I really don't think they ever will. Not until we (as Man) pull our heads out and see what it is we are doing to ourselves and our surroundings. But,...I'm crunching the info anyway! No real suggestions, an extremely noble endeavor!
