Profile: Gorgarath

Personal background
I'm a certified computer technician from Portage, Pennsylvania. I have been engaged to my fiancee for way too long now, but she keeps dragging her heels about setting a date. We also have a daughter.

I can juggle and ride a unicycle.

I was a lighting technician/sound technician/roadie, most notable for being a wiz with the lighting for a great band, now known as Shades of June for ~7 years. And now that I've moved back from NJ, I'm going to start doing it again.

I have been a guitarist in 3 or 4 bands before being a techie for Shadow/Shadow 5/Falling Forward/Shades of June. (Don't copyrights suck when they cause you to have to keep changing your name?) Though, if I ever join another band as a musician, I would rather sing than play guitar.

I enjoy going to concerts. I like pretty much all music except extremely country country music and quite a bit of rap. And yes, that means I do listen to classical music as well.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
(Warning!! This was just copied and pasted from my old profile without me really going over it to change anything.)

1. Extraterrestrial life does exist. We are after all the useless third of the population of a distant planet. (According to The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy, I love books.) But like Douglas Addams said, "In an infinite universe, everything is possible." Though the universe's diameter I think is about 2 inches short of infinity, so maybe not everything is possible but anything should still be possible when you're that close to infinite, just not everything. As to how we will discover it? I think it is more likely that it will discover us. The benifits pretty much outway the dangers, at the worst, we'll all be deemed useless and killed or be slaves and such. But if we are deemed useless and not worth living, why would they bother to come here? The benifits could be wonderful though, lots of new information, if they are willing to share, and hopefully more good books to read. If we can come up with all the fantasy works that we have already, what can they come up with? It would have to be good.

2. Actually, I think sending out a dedicated beacon dedicated wouldn't be a bad idea. We should broadcast a distress call and some sort of instructions on how to get here to see if they can figure out a way for us to solve our problems since we don't seem able to. Or just give us some neat gizmos and gadgets.

3. I run SETI@home because it's something that intrests me. Plus I wouldn't mind being known as the person that discovered ET, though I'd probabally quickly get tired of it if it went mainstream news. Even if it's just in the scientific community, I'll still probabally get tired of it, but it will give me another sort of immortality. As for my views, I think it will be nice to finally have proof of someone else out there that's hopefully smarter than us, though proof of someone out there that's dumber than us would be even more astounding. A suggestion is maybe trying to get some recordings from the southern hemisphere as well.
