Personal background
I'm a consulting Systems/Business Analyst in Seattle, looking forward to retirement in Mexico in a few years. I have 5 children (3 hers, 2 mine) and 5 grandchildren (ours). I enjoy travel, computers, music, books and history. I collect old photographs - originals, copies and digital.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extraterrestrial intelligence (ETI) exist? Logic dictates that it should; it’s a very large universe and it’s reasonable to think life is not unique to Earth. I hope that ETI is found in my lifetime, but I suspect not without considerable improvement in technology.

Should we send beacons? We’re already sending RF beacons (I hope any aliens aren’t put off by “I Love Lucy” reruns). I suspect we'll get what we deserve ("Lost in Space" reruns?).

I run SETI@home for several reasons: 1) it’s a fascinating project and who knows what will eventually come of it; 2) it’s the world’s largest distributed system and it’s fun to participate; 3) funding continues to decrease and this is a way to keep the home fires burning; and 4) it’s something I would do for myself given the opportunity.

Suggestions? Get a good road show together as a fund-raising mechanism and to show state and US congress members what is being accomplished with the ridiculously small sums being grudgingly granted. Also, allow the user to date their certificates (I never remember to download them on the correct date). Finally, provide special certificates or similar recognition for users with multiple computers.
