Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
No one can demonstratively provide an argument that extraterrestrial life exists or do not exists in whatever form they may have manifested. Personally, I believe they may exists, in whatever form they may take, and it should be one of humanities endeavors to discover the possbility of their existance.

As for human beacons, while they may have the ability to attract alien life forms, they might not be aware that this is a beacon from another alien race and completly disregard it. Whatever the case mmay be for it or against it, I believe that we should do all that we can to find other forms of life in the universe. HOWEVER, the human race first needs to mature. We can't even take care of our own planet yet there our people who wish to colonize Mars. It's not bad enough to pollute one planet, heck, let's start messing up the rest of them. Better yet, maybe the Republicans can move all the trash, toxic waste, etc... to Mars and outsource the work to 3rd world countries. Yea!

Why do I run SETI@home? Because it's a great way to be a part of SETI.
