Profile: Paul Quade

Personal background
Rather boring really.

43-year-old television technical director for a large company ran by a mouse.

Weekends are usually spent video taping people square dancing at 120 mph.

I also shoot stills.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Clearly the odds are in favor of extraterrestrial life existing. However, intelligent, technological, life existing in the same time time we are and within radio range . . . well . . . that's a little bit more tricky. Still, well worth the effort to find out, eh?

As far as ever actually figuring out what they're saying, well, we haven't had much luck with dolphins and whale yet have we? Still, again, well worth the effort just to look.

As far as a beacon goes, heck yes, let's set something up that's unmistakeable. Let's put up a whopping huge transmitter - solar powered on the far side of the Moon so it won't interfer with our own communications. Make it automated and built to last for thousands and thousands of years. Turn it on, and leave it alone.

I run SETI@home because it has a remote chance of answering one of the most fundamental questions we can ask. Like I've been saying all along, well worth the effort.
