I think it is likely that some forms of life exist beyond our own locality, what they might be and how advanced I couldn't begin to guess. A beacon from Earth would be a great thing, but could scientists be left alone to create a generic message or would everyone else try to get their ideals across? If we could just send out our location and something simple to the effect of 'here we are and we'd like to meet you' that would be great.
I run SETI@home because I love space exploration and would like to contribute in my small way.
