Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
To paraphrase a line from the movie "Contact", "It'll be an awful waste of space if it were just us." There are beings out there - some might be less complex life forms, others just the opposite. We'll find each other someday.

I would like to think ET would be friendly. However, a species that is hostile, that don't concern themselves with moral/ethical issues - only of survival and conquest - would have a greater possibility I would think of achieving technical advancement much faster. And yes, I'd still would like to be around even if the first ET's we meet prove to be less than friendly. It might be a scary experience but, oh boy!, it'll certainly be different.

Didn't we send a Voyager probe back in the 1970's already? I think the question of whether we should or shouldn't send out a signal is a moot point. Perhaps, if ET sent a signal and we detect and decipher it 1st before they do ours, we'll be better prepared (security-wise) for when the face-to-face happens. That's why I believe the S@h project is a very good idea.

As for suggestions... Build good PR - with sponsors (private or public), media, and, most especially, with the volunteers.
