Personal background |
Hi! I'm a web application developer from Dayton, Ohio, USA. When not developing...well let's face it, I'm always developing. However, in those rare occasions when I am not sitting in front of a workstation, I'm usually playing electric guitar (I'm the proud owner of 2 Les Pauls), running very long distances, reading books (more development, physics, fantasy, and philosophy), listening to music, or just spending time with friends.
I'm running SETI@Home on two different machines: An IBM NetVista A21 (Pentium III 1GHz), and a Sun Ultra 5 (UltraSparc IIi 400MHz). |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I'm running SETI@Home because I think it's an interesting exercise in distributed computing. I mean, imagine the power of all these computers crunching data for a common cause, it's kind of staggering!
When I was a kid, I remember watching the Cosmos PBS series by Carl Sagan. It had (and still has) a profound impact me. It's nice that I can have an impact on the SETI project, however small.
Do I believe in extraterrestrial life? Of course! Given that our universe is composed of billions of galaxies, and within each galaxy are billions of stars, it seems pretty likely. |
