Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Its hard to say whether we're alone in this Universe or not...but I surely believe that its worth a shot trying to find out the answer. Human beings, by nature, are curious and I guess Seti@home is a great way to quench our thirst for knowledge about extraterrestrial life. Do I believe that this thirst can be quenched in the "near" future? Not really...but then again, u never know.
On the technological side of this project,I believe that the entire SETI@home apparatus is an excellent example of massively distributed processing, and of the "useful" effects of computer on community building. It is also a great way of spending your surfing time doing something for the advancement of human knowledge...trust me, in the end, its you who would reap the benefit of such a project.
