Personal background
I'm a 20 year old male from Arizona, I work for the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems specialist, and have been stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB for a bit over a year now. On the whole being stationed in Tucson, Az has worked out fairly well for me, I'm close to a number of observatories, and the U of A has a great astronomy department. Also I enjoy hiking and mountain biking, which is wildly popular around this area. Pretty much I just enjoy science and the outdoors, and this area has the perfect mix of both. If anyone wants to chat, my AOL instant messager name is AirmanScotty. Happy Hunting.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extraterrestrial life exist? Wow...that's a toughy...I'd say that I'm not sure, I've seen no evidence of it so far...(which simply means we need to keep looking...) and that the prospect is certainly both intriguing and frightening. I mean the social, political, and religious ramifications of such a discovery would be incredible. Over the course of Human history, our species has not, as a whole, taken massive change well. But, I am optimistic of such a discovery occuring, I feel that, once we got over the initial blow to our pride, our species would benifit greatly from the knowledge that life exists (or existed) elsewhere in the universe. That is why I run SETI@home, I figure, my computer is almost always on, it is a 1GHz system, with 256MB RAM and a broadband (3MBps)connection to the 'net....I don't even come close to using it's full potential, and while running SETI@home in the background, all the time, I've not noticed a change in performance....My only wish was that I could use more of my system towards this endeavor.
