Personal background
I am a 24 year old Systems Analyst working for a medical clinic in Iowa. Although I rarely find the time, I enjoy going outside in the evenings and watching the stars. Being able to see the sky clearly at night is one of my favorite things about living in Iowa.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I truly believe extraterrestrial life exists. And I have a strong belief that contact with life from another world would benefit this world immensly. In any form, I beleive knowledge of intelligent ET life would forever change the human future. We would solidify as a planet. We would all be faced with the realization that we are really just a small dot in the universe. I think it would help humanity redefine its purpose. For centuries people have been asking the questions, "Why are we here? What is our purpose." I don't know the answer, but I know what the answer is not. The reason we exist is not to kill each other, not to harm (emotionally or physically) one another. Not to squabble over peices of land. And I don't believe that any true God would ever wish for his people to harm each other in his name - for any reason! I think contact with another intelligent lifeform would redefine humanity in a way that can't be done otherwise.

I think we should do all that we can to find ET life. Send out probes, and radio transmissions. As well as, continue to explore our own solar system. I run SETI@home because in a small way I feel I am doing my part in the great search. I know I'll never design a probe or have the chance to explore another planet, but at least this is something (small as it is) I can do. In the hopes that we will one day discover something.

In our beacon we should do nothing more then say hello, and welcome ET life to stop by and say hi. We'd love to meet them.
