I think it may exist, but from what I have learned recently, it is highly unlikely we will be contacted by intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.
I do think we should send out a beacon, but I don't expect much to come of it.
I run Seti at home, because it is cool, and i can feel that I am part of a scientific investigation that is more encompassing than earthly endeavors.
