Personal background
Hi all! About me...hmmmm...well, I hail from the greater Detroit area, am a professional tech salesman, I enjoy reading, wargaming, and tinkering with my computers. Anything else? Well, I also enjoy my privacy, so to get any deeper, you'll have to get to know me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does life exist outside of our little, insignificant, blue-green planet? Of course it does! Even if there was no God, and the universe were just a random happenstance, the odds of there NOT being any other form of intelligent life are so outrageously infantismally small, as to not be concevable. We humans, as a race, suffer from a mental flaw...one that can be observed in the histories of any country. It is this: What man does not understand, man fears; what man fears, man seeks to destroy. Now, keeping that in mind, the one most terrifying, mind numbing happening that our race could encounter would be another race, one that comes from a planet too far away for us to try to destroy; a race that can travel intergalactic distance, who's technology base exceeds our own. Now, this may offend some people. That is not my intention-this is just an observation, and only truely applies to the masses, not individuals. The individuals are just a minority. When will we discover them? well...that answer is completely relative. If we get a signal, how many thousands of years old will it be?-or even millions? While it would put the debate to rest on if life exists outside our planet, I don't think that will be the true discovery. The true discovery of life off our little rock will either come when they decide to let us know they are there, or when we go find them. I only hope if they find us first, they don't suffer from the same flaw we do. I hold no illusions of the result of such a happening (ID4-HAH)! I do not think, based on the previous obsevations, that we should ever transmit any beacons, ever. Better to err on the side of caution, than blunder into an intergalactic incident blindfolded.
