Profile: The Pet Store

Personal background
The Pet Store is maintained by Lauren and Brigette. We are located in The Grove, Texas.....ever heard of it????? Don't worry neither has anyone else who doesn't live out here. Ah, the good life takes the form of 35 acres overlooking a beautiful river valley. Green grass and tall trees.

We call ourselves The Pet Store for several reasons....first being that we thought it was cute and funny, second being that we have just about every type of pet you can think of from the frog and gekko right up to the mice and goldfish, but more seriously we are committed to the rescue and placement of "drop off pets". Texas has a very serious problem with irresponsible pet owners that are under the FALSE impression that animals, however tame, can live in the wild when they are no longer wanted by their owners. We have taken in, nursed back to health, and placed over 40 dogs that were abandoned on the county roads of Central Texas. (pat on the back)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Humans are very highly specialized beings that took an evolutionary miracle to develop. But since when do we have a monopoly on miracles.

If we are the pinacle of universal evolution, then it will likely take another thousand years of scientific advances to be capable of the type of space travel needed to seek out and engage ET, but if we are not the pinacle, it will likely take another thousand years of social evolution before ET wants to have anything to do with us. Sad, but think about it; would you engage an alien population that behaved as poorly as ours? Would you ever even land your ship?

If we did find ET, my fear is that would give them small pox, decimate their population, sell the survivors into slavery, give them a mule and let them open casinos in space. Gee, you're right, I'm jaded.

We run SETI@home with the anticipation that someone out there will send us a glimmer of hope.....a short message....."hang in there, eventually you'll evolve".

Great project! Anything to keep it up and running.
