Personal background
I'm actually an army brat, and been in two branches of the military myself so I'm from all over the place. I love looking into X-Files type mysteries that present themselves everyday. Anything that doesn't make sense or shouldn't be happening the way its happening draws my attention.

Currently, I'm about to relocate and therefore am on vacation. I just got done being a supervisor at a telemarketing firm (ick), and who knows what I'll do next.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe extraterrestrial life exists. I think that we don't know what we're looking for however. I wonder sometimes if we have run across it in the past, and it was simply so alien to us that we didn't recognize it. We have been conditioned by science fiction to look for grays, and other popular humanoid type aliens, but I think when we find ET, we may not realize we've found what we're looking for.

I do think we should transmit a beacon. We are helping SETI look for patterns that repeat. About 30 years ago, Earth sent out a transmission. We sent it once, and it didn't repeat. If ET is running a SETI type program, would they recognize our signal as intelligent life or would they dismiss it as cosmic noise or just another peak?

I run SETI at home because I think we're going to find some interesting things with it. Even if we don't find ET, I think this data could be of much use scientifically. Perhaps when we actually find a signal that turns out to be ET, we may then go back to look through all this again, only this time with a better idea of what to look for. I also run SETI because I love the unknown.
