Profile: Wolfgang Rudolph

Personal background
I'm from Kassel in Germany, a city of 200,000 in the North of the Federal State of Hessen. I'm a sociologist, running with a few mates a small institute in the field of social research. I am born in 1949. Besides my job I got elected as the head of a local parliament in our city district with a population of 16,000, which is a honorary duty.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life exists, doubtlessly. I have no idea, when and how humans will discover it. Possibly they will discover us. There could be a lot of benefits for us, especially in terms of developing society (forget all the technological stuff, it is of minor importance). Okay, contact could also be dangerous (not only for us!). But universalization is the logical consequence and continuation of globalization.
Apart from the contact itself, some day, the SETI@home project is the first and best benefit, so far. Because of its visions and hopes, which involves and unites millions of people of different countries, cultures and religions on this planet.
