Personal background
Well, I'm a (no longer) student in southern Ontario, Canada, with a computer (or three) sitting here all day that i figured could be doing more useful stuff with it's CPU than making a Windows logo float around the screen (or passing idle commands to the CPU).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life exists somewhere...the place is just too big to not have other life hiding someplace in it. As to when and how, I have no idea, and benefits and dangers....benefits could be some sort of technoglogy or knowledge...harms, well, there's lots of science-fiction on that subject.

I run SETI@Home because my computer can be more useful processing stuff then sitting here making pretty things appear on the screen when noone's around to watch them. That and I like being a part of the largest supercomputer. Views about the project....it's a very good idea, and has gotten an enormous response from people around the world. Suggestions...hmm...keep up the good work!
