Personal background
I'm 30 and newly relocated (temporarily) to Omaha, NE, from the Washington, DC area. I'm running SETI@home as part of a rather crazed group called SETIFools, and I've recently realized that my friends come in 2 flavors: Crazy and Crazier. I am currently running SETI on 2 machines - a desktop & laptop at home. If you care, the Laptop is an HP Pavilion ze5185 that annoys me to no end because in the last 2 years it's needed 2 new fans and a hard drive, and now the keyboard's on the fritz. And it will only run WinXP. Don't buy HP computers. Grrr. The other machine at home is a slightly geriatric Dell Dimension desktop running Win2k. I was also running it on two clunkers at work that were running Win95, and should be of interest to archaeologists in 5 years or so. But I got laid off last Thanksgiving (03) so I lost those minions. Speaking of, I'm looking for a job. Wanna hire me?
My other interests include flying (I got my private pilot's license last August. I can fly single-engine planes under Visual Flight Rules now, can't decide if I should get instrument rated next, or try my hand at helicopters - regardless, it won't happen till I get a job), reading (recently re-read Cheaper By The Dozen and Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and got Pattern Recognition for Christmas) - some of my fave authors include Arthur C. Clarke, William Gibson, Robert Ludlum, and Alison Weir, among many others - and playing on my computer. I love movies too, particularly sci-fi and action flicks. I've been having great fun with Netflix, catching up on StarGate SG-1, which my last roomie thinks is horribly cheesy (it is, but it's fun). Hey, she likes Friends, I like SG-1. What can I say? I'm a happy little geek.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Opinions about SETI@home:
1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
Yes. There's no way we're the only existant intelligent creatures. Heck, we're not the only smart ones on Earth, either - we just don't give the others enough credit. We'll probably find ETs when and where we least expect it, so I suggest paying attention. I know some of my friends seem to be rather alien! ;-) For possible benefits/dangers, go read "Rewind" by Terry England.

2. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

Yes. Hopefully, we won't scare them away. As for what to send... hmmm... hafta think on that, it's a tricky one. "Hi, we're the Humans. Please don't hurt us. We promise not to bite unless you really want us to."? Hmmm.
Perhaps we should wait a decade or a century before we send up any "Yo! Over here!" flares - wait until we have a more enlightened administration in place, at least.

3. Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

Why not?
