Personal background
I'm an applications developer from Melbourne, Australia. I heard about SETI@Home on our local community radio station 3RRR. My hobbies include photography, bushwalking and film. I have a fairly nuts and bolts technical background, I've been a mechanic, a technical officer etc but I have a
lay-person's love of science also. The idea of being involved in a project like SETI@Home really appealed to me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do believe in ET's. I just can't accept that we are all there is.
On how "contact" will occur I have a weird theory:- I think that all our stories about aliens, all this searching, all our stereotypes of the good / bad aliens are in some way our collective psyche's way of exploring how we will behave as the alien who go out into the universe and find other civilisations. Yes, that's how I believe contact will occur, we'll go out there looking.

I like the idea of SETI@Home because it involves people in one of the most interesting questions we've ever posed...is there anybody out there?
I also like the notion that all the resources invested in these millions of PC's around the world are being used for something more than playing Solitaire.
