There is a classification of hypothetical civilizations created by Princeton physicist Freeman J. Dyson and Russian astronomer Nikolai Kardashev; it is based on the energy output of such a civilization... according to this, Humanity is 0.7 class. About SETI and the desktop project, well it is such a pleasant thought that we still have intelligent life in this planet.
Communication with others? Yes, but we should only 'listen' for now, because we are not prepaired for a ETE encounter, even if it is in the form of a radio signal. We may be ready to transmit by the time Humanity reaches Type I Civilization status (Planetary), and that, based on our energy output, is to become by the year 2100... IF WE SURVIVE WHAT MOTHER NATURE DICTATES... EVOLVE OR DIE!!! |
