Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life does exist. Although I cannot say when, where or how we will discover it. I think just the fact that we know we are not alone is the greatest benefit. If the life has the ability to travel long distances in space in a short amount of time then helping us off our planet and out of our solar system would be an incredible benefit. As far as dangers, it is a veritable pandora's box of possibilities.
I think we don't need to send any specific beacon, any signal we transmit would probably attract someone's attention.
I run the program because I think it is a worthy project, and becasue of all the computing power out there allot of it is wasted. Why not let my computer be doing something constructive while I am away for hours and days at a time.
