Profile: Brian Olsen

Personal background
I am currently a History and Philosophy of Science and German double major at Case Western Reserve University. I am a god of the trombone, a more than proficient mokey trainer and an outlaw in Peru. My hobbies include fencing, bowling, reading, and searching for forms of intelligent life( which is no easy task on our own planet, let alone in other galaxies).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The abscence of life on other worlds is impossible. There are an almost infinite number of galaxies with solar systems possibly like our own and a large number of ways that life could originate in these solar systems. Why should Earth be the only planet upon which with the gift of life has been bestowed? Science has brought us the knowledge that the same laws of physics and chemistry apply everywhere in the universe, as well as in our own backyard. We must seek out life wherever it may be, not only for the value of expanding human knowledge, but for expanding human perspective as well. In finding extra-terrestrial life, we will not only find companions in the universe but for the first time, we may find our place in the cosmos.
