Personal background
Hi. Welcome to my Seti@Home profile. I was born in Canada about 30 years ago, but I am currently living and working in the US. I work as a software engineer designing medical databases for a large corporation, so I'm not an expert in radio astronomy but I'm excited to help with this project. When the project was first announced several years ago, they were looking for help writing the client code. If I remember correctly, I downloaded the project and saved it off somewhere. One of these days, I'll see if I can dig it up and post a link to it. Who knows, it may have historical/sentimental value to someone besides myself. :-)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do the math (the Drake Equation):

N = R* × fp × ne
× fl × fi × fc × L

Where,

N = The number of communicative civilizations

R* = The rate of formation of suitable stars

fp = The fraction of those stars with planets

ne = The number of "earths" per planetary system

fl = The fraction of those planets where life develops

fi = The fraction life sites where intelligence develops

fc = The fraction of planets where technology develops

L = The "Lifetime" of communicating civilizations

Life is out there. I don't know if we'll ever find evidence of it in our lifetime, but it is certainly worth trying.
