Personal background
I am a science fiction fan from way back because my paternal grandfather was one of the writers in the New York group in the late 1930s until mid-1945. So I started thinking "what if" at a very early age. I am a compulsive reader and internet junkie, as is my spouse. I am self-employed as a clinical social worker in private practice specializing in treatment of substance abuse and/or trauma. I am also interested in science of practically every kind, particularly biological and social sciences, almost anything that ends with --ology. Up until recently there didn't seem to have anything in the Seti project programmed for the Macintosh. Happily, I found that Macintoshes are now supported, and I can do my little bit toward understanding what is "out there". .
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I really don't know if extraterrestrial life exists or not. I don't think that the universe is a series of random occurrences, but tit seems as though at least Cro-Magnon man has a need to learn, know, experience, and understand as much of the universe as we can, and I personally think there is some kind of intelligence or energy running the show at least on a cosmic level.

I can support the idea that other civilizations, particularly ones that are not carbon based, exist, because it seems that Intelligence delights in expressing itself in many forms.
