Personal background
I watched people run Seti@Home on their computers for about a year before I really dedicated any time to it. Now I run it on every computer in my possession or care. Except the computer of my lovely bride. No, not that one...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In all the billions of years since the beginning of time, in all the billions of stars out there, can we really think that we are the only intelligent form of life out there? What if planet changing events, like a comet colliding with earth, never happened? What if there is a planet out there whose evolutionary track was not interrupted? The visit just got interesting. The rise and fall of alien civilizations over thousands, millions, billions of years... We only have a couple thousand to look back on. How many do they have?
