Profile: Erock

Personal background
Hey there, folks. My name is Eric, but I'm better known by many as Erock. I'm from Lincoln, RI, USA. I'm a pharmacist by trade; however, I think of myself as a musician and an angler who just sells drugs to pay the bills. I'm a founding member of Tricky Dick, and the Salty Balls Fishing Team. I've also had stints in the Hamdingers, Nothing, Unitatus, and I occasionally dabble around on my solo project, the Erock Effect. I thank my years of Catholic schooling for my current agnosticism. Viva SETI!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't know whether ET life exists; but it sure would be cool if it did. While it would be comforting knowing that we are not alone in the universe, this desired comfort is not reason alone to be sure that there is something else out there.
Because of the immense scales, both spacially and temporally, that would likely exist between out civilization and any we may encounter, the only potential negative aspect of our discovery of ET's is the frustration that we will not be able to communicate. The benefits of this discovery could well be immense. With any luck we may find valuable information about this civilization's knowledge of life and the universe.
By the same token, I feel it is our responsibility to respond in kind. A dual beacon should be constructed. One, a simple homing beacon to attract attention to the second beacon, which could transmit much of our important scientific and cultural discoveries, including relativity, quantum physics, even the entire body of the library of Congress.
