Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I am certain extraterrestrial life exists. Geographical/temporal distances involved make it extremely unlikely that we will discover such life outside of our solar system. I do not believe we could ever communicate with extra-terrestrial intelligence. We have a hard enough time communicating with non-human terrestrial intelligence.
2) Yes we should transmit information about ourselves that would be useful to other intelligent life for purely altruistic reasons. If it is ever received it is most likely that we will no longer exist.
3) I run seti@home because it is a way for me to contribute to a brilliantly conceived project. The chance of there ever being a result is infintessimally small, but if there is a result................!

Technically the program runs well and seems less prone to conflicts than most other programs I use regularly. I do not like the way it runs so far in background it does not show up on Windows Taskmaster. Occasionally I find that so much resource is being drained from my system (Twin 1.7g xeons with 1g memory) that my regular programs start to run sluggishly. I turn off Seti and everything returns to normal. There should be a way to put a cap on the amount of resources that Seti is allowed to consume.
