Personal background
I am 55. I live in Canberra, the capital city of Australia with my second wife, Yatphirun. I have two grownup children from my first marriage and another from my second marriage.

I am a graduate environmental scientist who hasn't worked in that field since 1978.

I have worked in the computer industry since 1986 and as an independent Unix systems consultant from 1988 to 2003. I currently work as a security engineer for a managed gateway company here in Canberra, mostly with Solaris systems, BSD and Linux.

I am a long time member of the Australian Unix Users Group, and the PC User's Group here in the ACT where I assist in administering their internet gateway (TIP - see http://www.tip.net.au) and serve on their committee.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I believe that it is a worthwhile project to which I can contribute in my own small way. If we discover that we are "not alone" I think it will be one of the greatest discoveries of all time, ranking with the discovery of agriculture or the wheel in the effect it will have on our society in the long term.
