Personal background
I am just a country boy living in the big city. I only discovered the wonders of computers in the year of 2000. I had been a construction worker all my life and when my children reached the age of wanting computers, I had to oblige them. Now I cannot imagine my life without computers. Since my late discovery of computers I have returned to school (starting college at the age of 38 for the first time). Since that time I have obtained an Associate Degree with a focus on computer networking. I went through the Cisco Networking Academy during the fall of the dot com industry and realized that I needed to focus on more than computer networking, so I have directed my focus to network security. I may have been a late bloomer, but I feel that I have made a giant leap into the future not only for myself but also my children. I hope to show my children (which are all teenagers) that anyone can improve their lives through education and that it is never too late to change your status in life. At the age of 40, I am ready to start a new career in computers.......wish me luck!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have never studied Astronomy or Astrology, but I am an avid Science-fiction fan. As a child I always looked up to the stars wondering..... but then my father, who has no imagination would always find a way to ground my "wild" thoughts, was determined to direct me towards a more sensible or practicle way of looking at life. I am pleased that I can help with the Seti Project in any capacity that I can. It would be idiocy to believe that we are the only sentient beings in this universe, and I hope that we can make confirmed contact in my life time. So, I would say that I beleive that there is life out there, but would life that we could contact really want to come to a world that is bent on killing itself? Even so, I think it would be great for us to transmit signals in hopes of a more intelligent or advanced civilization finding it and possibly making contact with us. I know the fears of the unknown, but nothing ventured nothing gained. I dont think that an ET would necessarily enslave us or rape our planet of its precious resources as the movies would depict. I believe that a more advanced civilization could possibly help us to overcome the stupid "school yard" squabbles that our nations keep having about this playground that we call Earth. Any signal that we send should at least say "Hello, can somebody help us?" Of course I am just a simple idiot that watched too many Star Trek episodes and I never claimed to be a brainiac by any means, but I will do anything to help with the Seti Project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
