Personal background
I am an electrical enginner who recently graduated from Gonzaga University (2000). I am working in the Pulp & Paper Industry in Longview, Washington at the moment. I find the variety of work that I do stimulating and I really enjoy my job. I work on building our already extensive mill network, installing new substations, new instrumentation or basically anything having to do with electricity at all. It is great that I get to work on something different nearly every day/week. My hobbies are collecting coins and stamps and of course I love to play computer games and watch SCI-FI programs. My favorite program recently is Farscape, but unfortunately it has been cancelled. The best news that I have is that soon there will be a new addition to the family and I will get to be a daddy!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I was first turned on to the SETI program when I was still attending Gonzaga university. My best friend Aaron told me that I could use my computer to help try and find ET's. Since both of us are ardent Star Trek fans and certainly believe that ET is out there somewhere we were only too happy to help! I do not believe that we will find ET in my lifetime, but I do believe that we can make a good start on which direction we should head once we have the ability for long distance space travel. The 2003 addition of 6 more radio recievers at the Arecibo site will hopefully be able to assist in this endeavor.

I believe that sending a beacon at this point might be a little premature, but I also believe that we won't have first contact within my lifetime. When we do make first contact there will be many things that will need to change and it will take several generations in my opinion to adapt and accept the new way of life. I think that before we make first contact we need to have unified the entire world at least so far as so that a majority of the world leaders can agree on major ideas. At that point I believe that we will at least show some signs of being ready for interspecies communications.
