Personal background
I'm a writer with an IT day job, I'm fond of cooking and photography, I read paperbacks by the armful, and I have enough shiny mineral and gemstone specimens to make a nice treasure salad in a pirate chest.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There better be life out there! Out of all the billions/trillions of planets there *must* be some capable of supporting life, that *do* support life. Sure there may be hostile races, but I'm willing to bet we're more of a hostile race than many we'd meet.
I think we transmit enough inadvertantly for an advanced race to detect, but we could make the jobs of a SETI organization from another world a lot easier if we did send such a signal.
I want to do my part to help out, however small. I wish SETI received more funding. I have no idea if this has been done already, but working with the government to formulate plans on how to deal with ET visits might be wise, particularly if that beacon idea is implemented.
