Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that extraterrestrial life exists. But i don't think you will find a lifeform that has 2 arms and 2 legs, like us.
You might have to look far back to the beginning. We were only small particles then, but still we could communicate with each other, or else we would not be here today.
And what if we look far ahead. Who's gonna say that we are a 150 pound man with 2 arms and 2 legs??
If we are able to establish cantact to some ET-lifeforms, we might learn a lot about the human part in this universe. I don't think you will find the meaning of life, but you'll get a big step closer.
The dangers about a ET-lifeform discovery is, that they might feel threatned by the human race, and that they have the will and the power to destroy us.
We, the humans, have a very barberic mentality. If we feel a bit threatned we destroy the source for that feeling. But it is the survival instinct of the human.

I cannot possible imagine, that a universe this big, only have lifeform on one very small planet. There might be a great distance between them, but i think they're out there.
That is also why i got SETI running on my PC.
I am helping whith are little bit of my computer time, and that is the least i can do. And who would'nt be a part of something big, when it happens. Its gonna happen!!
This is why i am a part of it.
