Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While I think the entire concept of Seti is commendable and the participation of volunteers has been amazing I feel that the scope of SETI needs to go beyond archaic radio wave transmission searches and move into more modern and technological areas of communication, such as optical.

If there are others out there, and if they are at all beyond us in technology, would it make sense for them to communicate via radio or rather via something that can pack a lot more data in a single transmission, such as laser or other optical type transmission? To me this seems similar to someone peering through a telecope at the horizon in search of smoke signals while radio transmissions are happening all around them unseen and unheard.
