Personal background
Hi!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the Seti project is interesting. I know that sounds a bit on-the-fence-ish but I am of two minds about it. I surely want the project to continue because we do not know if there is intelligent life out there. I think it arrogant to believe that the Earth is the only inhabited planet in a universe we have not even mapped completely. If we make the claim that our's is the only inhabited planet in the universe, it needs to be built on some evidence. That said, I am not happy with us sending up and leaving in space debris from our various trips into space on the moon and now on other planets -- that just doesn't seem real friendly to me. A beacon might not be such a bad idea -- certainly better than the radio waves of news footage as evidence of how we treat each other on this little blue planet. Still we can't call back the radio waves either. Geesh!
I run the SETI@home software because I want to help make the case one way or the other. I like that my computer is doing something other than running a loop of cyber fish. It is doing something, something helpful. I like that.
